AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Augusta County sheriff’s deputies say the stolen truck that Richard Smith is accused of stealing was recovered this morning in Fauquier County.
Deputies believe he has now stolen a 1998 Red Jeep Cherokee in front of a Tru Value Hardware Store. The SUV is registered in Virginia with XUZ-9011 tags. It has no rear-view mirror and a stick gymnastics sticker on the rear window.
A witness at the scene of the alleged theft described Smith as wearing a red/maroon shirt and a blue baseball hat.
The witness also said that the person believed to be Smith parked the truck he was driving right next to the Cherokee. The suspect then took the keys out of the cup holder of the Cherokee and drove away.
It's unknown what direction he's traveling.
Smith’s sister, Elkton resident Laura Lee Williams, is charged with first-degree murder.
Deputies did not release how she's allegedly involved in the case. She’s being held at the Rockingham County Jail.
Fourty-seven-year-old Richard Clay Smith is wanted for capital murder in the death of an 80-year-old Mount Sidney man last week.
Police believed that Andrea Mullan, who was wanted on fraud charges in Page County, was on the run with Smith. She was arrested Monday afternoon in Washington Township, New Jersey.
She is in custody and awaiting extradition to Virginia.
Additional charges are pending in Augusta and Rockingham County.
