UVa Student Dies in Washington, DC

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The University of Virginia community is mourning the death of one of its students.

Second-year student Mary Shelley Goldsmith of Abingdon, Va., died Saturday night in Washington, D.C., according to an email sent out to faculty, staff and students. Goldsmith was a Jefferson Scholar and involved with the Alpha Phi sorority.

The email says Goldsmith died at a Washington hospital but does not provide details about what led to her death.

The university is organizing counseling services for those who seek them.
