A University of Virginia team that developed an IV catheter to improve blood sampling is the winner of this year

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A University of Virginia team that developed an IV catheter to improve blood sampling is the winner of this year's Governor's Business Plan Challenge.

U.Va. biomedical engineering students Andrew Andreae, Timothy Higgins, and Jessica Ungerleider won the Capital One Grand Prize of $10,000 in cash and services.

Gov. Bob McDonnell says in a news release that their blood sampling solution could improve patients' lives.

Twenty-one teams from public and private colleges and universities competed in the challenge.
