HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- People across Harrisonburg and Rockingham County volunteered Wednesday as part of United Way's Day of Caring.

People painted and pulled weeds at Mercy House, just one of a number of stops for the day.

Some WHSV employees volunteered their time as well.

With a constant waiting list, the work completed Wednesday will help provide much needed apartment space.

"Just making our community a much more beautiful place," said Laura Toni-Holsinger, the executive director of the United Way.

"Just amazing to me that we live in a community that cares this much. I don't think that every community is that blessed," said Twila Lee, the executive director of Mercy House.
