Update: Puppy Mill Bust in Page County

PAGE COUNTY, Va. (WHSV)-- The owners of dogs at the puppy mill waived their rights to the dogs so they are now the responsibility of Page County, according to Page County Sheriff John Thomas.

Since the Page County Animal shelter does not have facilities to house these animals, the Animal Rescue Corps is helping place the dogs with rescue groups and shelters up and down the Mid-Atlantic.

It will more than likely be a few weeks until the pups are healthy enough to be adopted.

If you are interested in adopting one of the dogs, check out Animal Rescues Corps. All of their rehabilitation and recovery will be coordinated by that group.

Sheriff Thomas said they will be updating the page with status of dogs as they become available.

The Commonwealth's attorney has not ruled out criminal charges against the former owners of the dogs.

On preliminary examination, a forensic veterinarian found that the animals were kept in conditions that violated Virginia law.
