STAUNTON, Va. -- Wednesday's snow took a toll on the Virginia Department of Transportation fleet and just a few days later, VDOT leaders had to start preparing for another storm on Saturday.

VDOT leaders made preparations for the weekend on Friday afternoon. New blades were being put on plows and a WHSV reporter saw one truck getting a hydraulic leak fixed.

The threat of Saturday's storm caused VDOT teams to immediately start preparing. Read the latest Weatherwise blog post from First Alert Storm Team Meteorologist Aubrey Urbanowicz to know what you can expect from the storm: Onto the Next Snow

Leaders of VDOT said they're preparing for a class three event, which means one to three inches on the roads. With the amount of snow they're expecting, leaders said it could take up to 24 hours to clear the roadways as long as they don't have to deal with car crashes.

“What interferes with us more than anything is when somebody has an accident or an incident and things happen. It impedes our ability to clear the roadway. If you don't have to be out there, don't be out there. Please,” said VDOT District Infrastructure Manager Lindsay Walker.

VDOT workers have salt bays stocked and brine tanks full to deal with the accumulation.

On Friday, crews were just waiting for the storm to start. They said if the Valley gets more snow than expected, there could be a longer delay in cleanup as they call out more trucks.
