RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Gov. Bob McDonnell says 11 projects throughout Virginia are sharing nearly $250,000 in funds aimed at strengthening the state's agriculture and forestry industries.

The grants are part of the Governor's Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund to help improve local economic development efforts relating to agribusiness.

Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Todd Haymore says flexibility was given to applicants to pursue the type of project that made the most sense for their region or locality. The projects must match each dollar awarded with a dollar of local funds.

Officials say the agriculture and forestry are Virginia's largest industries, with a combined economic impact of $79 billion annually. The industries also provide about 500,000 jobs in Virginia.
