STAUNTON Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind superintendent Nancy Armstrong plans to retire this summer.
Armstrong's retirement will be effective Aug. 1. She has served as the Staunton-based school's superintendent for 14 years.
The News Leader (http://bit.ly/1ppboPL ) reports that Armstrong announced her retirement last week at a quarterly meeting of the school's Board of Visitors.
The school's director of student life, Mary Murray, also plans to retire, effective July 1. She has served at the school for 32 years.
The school also is losing its assistant principal of the deaf department. Erin Fernsler plans to leave at the end of April to take a job out of state. Fernsler tells the newspaper her new position will put her closer to family members.
