RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia is seeing a mix of rain, sleet and snow throughout much of the state as travelers are hitting the roads after the Christmas holiday.
The National Weather Service says much of the precipitation statewide should diminish on Wednesday evening.
Light precipitation could still be possible in areas north and west of Richmond throughout the night. But temperatures are not expected to get below freezing overnight east of Charlottesville to the coast.
A winter weather advisory also remained in effect until 7 p.m. for most of western and southwest Virginia, but meteorologists say a mix of sleet and snow is expected to be scattered the rest of the day. Temperatures in the western part of the state are expected to remain below freezing overnight, making road conditions challenging.
