Va. Regulators OK New Power Plant, Rate Rider

State regulators have given the green light to a $1.1 billion power plant in Warren County.

The State Corporation Commission also approved a rate rider allowing Dominion Virginia Power to begin recovering the cost of the project, including transmission facilities.

It kicks in on April 1 and will add about 65 cents to the typical monthly bill of a residential customer.

The commission approved construction Thursday of the Warren County Power Station. It will be a 1,239-megawatt natural gas-fired combined cycle generation plant.

The power plant will rise on 39 acres three miles north of Front Royal. It is expected to begin delivering power by December 2014.
