HARRISONBURG -- A Democrat in the Valley said members of her party think that the candidates on the Virginia Republican ticket are too extreme and some of the most extreme the party has put forward. That's based on bills introduced by them and media statements.

Deb Fitzgerald is the Democratic committee chair in Harrisonburg. She said the Republican candidates focus more on social issues and not on those that concern most Virginians, like jobs and transportation.

She said the candidates don't support women rights as far as access to health care and reproductive freedom. Also, she said they don't acknowledge climate change

"We have known these for a while and we are a little dismayed that this is such an extreme and out of the mainstream position for most Virginians today,” said Fitzgerald.

She said when the Democrats elect their candidates in June, people will be able to see what the party stands for. She said the party cares about issues that concern most Virginians, not that divide them.
