Valley Group Looks To Learn Bus System

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Valley neighbors with intellectual and developmental disabilities are learning how to use public transportation.

Organizers with The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County said some of them are taking a pledge to the state to highlight the challenges those with disabilities face that some wouldn't think of.

"Independence is often thwarted because people don't have a way to get around," explained Shea Godwin, the executive director at The Arc.

"If its like one or two buses and when to get off them and that court can be a pain," said Dick Simon, who also works for The Arc.

The Arc plans to learn more about public transportation options the week of Sept. 15.
