Valley Man Warns Other of Letter Scam

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- It may be exciting to receive a letter telling you there is more than $4 million dollars waiting for you, but one Valley man knew immediately it was a scam.

William Kilby received the letter about a week ago. It's from Japan and claims that a rich man that shares Kilby's last name had died.

It goes on, saying that Kilby was the closest person to the deceased man that the writer of the letter could contact. It claimed that Kilby would receive more than $4 million and all Kilby had to do was contact the person and access the bank account where the money was being held.

"Well its a little scary because he has some professional information. He has my professional title and address. He had my home address. It makes you kind of wonder what other information he might be able to obtain," said Kilby.

Kilby isn't planning on contacting the sender. He says people should be very careful before they give personal information out.
