ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- A Timberville woman won the $2-million prize in the Virginia Powerball this week.
Belinda Turman picked up her check Thursday at the Timberville Food Lion.
Turman said she decided to check her ticket while shopping last Friday. She found out that she had matched the first five numbers in the Powerball drawing. The extra dollar she spent for Power Play, increased her winnings to $2 million.
She and members of her family were completely surprised when they found out.
“I said, 'You better get out of here,' so we left there screaming all the way to Harrisonburg, got to the lottery office five to 10 minutes before they closed, and I was still screaming. I asked her three times, 'Are you sure?' She said, 'You're a big winner.' I said, 'What do you mean I'm a big winner?' She said, 'You won $2 million.' I said, 'Nuh uh. Are you serious?'
Turman said the first thing she planned to do was take her family on vacation to Disney World. After that, she planned to help pay some of their bills and purchase a new home for herself.
