SHENANDOAH VALLEY, Va. (WHSV) -- The Valley is mentioned in Virginia Business as being one of the top biking destinations in Virginia.
Some call the Valley "The Friendly City," while to others, it is the biking capital of Virginia.
Known for its rural roads and beautiful biking trails, it is a draw for many people to the Valley.
Jen Edwards, who moved to Harrisonburg for biking, said "being able to have that carefree lifestyle, get all around town and get to all the places we need to without having to get in the car."
She is not the only one.
People working at Shenandoah Bicycle said the growing bike culture also brings visitors into our area. In fact, the industry has grown so quickly, employees said the store has actually tripled in size.
Kyle Lawrence, who is on the board for the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition, said the more paths that are built, the more we will see folks riding downtown.
"It has a powerful impact on local business. Cyclists can contribute a lot more to places like a vibrant downtown," said Lawrence.
And, Edwards agrees. After traveling all across the United States, she was looking for a place with a strong biking culture to settle down and raise a family.
"A community of people who were interested in cycling. And, are making the town a better place to ride for casual riders," said Edwards.
Now, instead of taking her kids around in a minivan, she is turning to training wheels for her family, saying it is her favorite way to commute to work and school.
