HARRISONBURG -- The roads in Virginia need work according to a new study. A report done by the American Society of Civil Engineers gave Virginia a grade of D+. It also says 47% of the roads are in poor or mediocre condition. It's no surprise when you feel your car bump, shake or rattle.

Adam "Chewy" Chewning is a Yellow Cab driver and drives all around. He said the streets in the Valley aren't that bad compared to other places.

"Coming from a bigger area, I've been to many big cities and these roads are well maintained compared to a lot of big cities where they have a lot worse issues," said Chewning.

Chewning thinks the grade was too low.

"I would give them a C or a C-Plus maybe. A D is really kind of stretching it," said Chewning.

Throughout Harrisonburg you can see many potholes. This is about the time to expect them because of the snow.

"The response time is generally....fairly good. Even as a cab driver, sometimes we'll call in issues to the city, and generally the city will respond. I would say, no more than a week usually," said Chewning.

Chewning believes the City of Harrisonburg has made a good effort patching up the city's potholes especially on the main streets. There are some though that are slipping through the cracks.

The Harrisonburg public works supervisor and said, on Wednesday, they filled around 25 different potholes.
They expect to take care of more tomorrow as they will receive more asphalt.

If you see a pothole or any other road issue in the area, contact them by phone at 540-434-5928.
