Harrisonburg -- The newest political poll on the race for Virginia's next governor shows Democrat Terry McAuliffe ahead with a 6 point lead.
A Quinnipiac poll released today shows McAuliffe leads his Republican challenger, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, 48 percent to 42 percent.
Political analyst Dr. Bob Roberts tells WHSV this poll shows that McAuliffe has the vote from African American voters as well as woman, but Roberts says it is still early in the race.
The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted August 14 to 19 and surveyed 1,129 likely voters. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
