Volunteers Help Clean Furniture After Violating an Unusual Law

WAYNESBORO,Va. (WHSV)-- The bedding law requires that a store show proof that their products are sanitized. It used to only apply to mattresses but has since been extended to include all types of furniture.

The owners said they didn't know that they were violating the law and have since gotten their sanitation permit. volunteers say they're trying to make the experience positive.

"It was sort of a roll your eye moment, like 'oh no', here we have something else that we're going to have to overcome, but God's been good and the stuff is coming together and thank goodness for the volunteers," said executive director Debbie Ramsey.

"Becoming compliant will just give me that much more of a comfort level that we're doing the right thing, we're doing it the right way," said volunteer Charles Phibbs.

They have until Aug. 24 to sanitize all of their furniture and they are still looking for volunteers.

Call Debbie Ramsey at 540-221-2955, for more information on how you can help by volunteering.
