WV City Bans Synthetic Cocaine

Sales of a synthetic drug that mimics the effects of cocaine are now illegal in Huntington.

The city council banned the sale or possession of the drug Monday night. The move follows similar action taken recently against synthetic marijuana.

The Herald-Dispatch reports that synthetic cocaine is sold as bath salts with names such as "Ivory Wave," "Synergy" or "Vanilla Sky." It contains a prescription drug used for cardiac patients or in anesthesia and a pscyhoactive drug called MDPV.

The earlier ban on synthetic marijuana doesn't address possession. The city council is expected to amend that ordinance to make possession of synthetic marijuana illegal.
