The rain and warm temperatures this December has skiers and snow boarders at the Massanutten resort hoping for that cold blast s they can hit the slopes.
But the mild temperatures have the resort struggling to even make snow.
It may have snowed in October but Massanutten resort says the now spring like temperatures have them struggling to keep the slopes open.
Kenny Hess is the Director of Operations at Massanutten and says, "It hasn't been a great start, we're hoping for colder weather to come soon and it can't come soon enough."
Eliza Cespedes has been coming to Massanutten resort for more than 30 years.
She says they pick this time of the year because usually there's already some snow on the ground.
"We like to come up here and relax and watch the snow fall, but we're kind of disappointed this year."
This year Cespedes says they came with some friends and the kids were hoping to see some snow this Christmas because they've never seen snow before.
Hess says, "The slopes aren't refrigerated like the ice rink is, so we're relying on mother nature to give us temperatures to keep the snow. It has to be cold enough to make the snow and then it has to be cold enough for the snow not to melt."
Michael, Corey, and Amber Lovely and their friend Charles Cespedes all live in florida.
So even though they've never seen real snow they know the difference.
They say "We've had a good time but we really wanted it to snow."
Despite the low chances of a White Christmas, they haven't given up hope just yet.
The resort says they were open for skiing earlier today, but they are waiting to see how much rain we get to determine slope conditions for the rest of the weekend.
