HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- The water in this area has been restored and customers should all now have water after a water main break on Friday morning at the intersection of Port Republic Road and South Main Street.
The intersection is back open to traffic as of Friday evening.
At about 3 a.m., the city was alerted of a water main break at the intersection of Port Republic Road and South Main Street. Crews with the Public Utilities Department responded and began repairing the six inch cast iron pipe.
Due to the significant damage done to the pavement, the next phase of repair is to conduct a milling and paving operation.
Milling is the process of removing eight to ten inches of pavement to ensure that all of the damaged asphalt is removed and the base stone is reestablished. Once that is complete, crews will repave this area.
Any customers who are still without water should contact Public Utilities at 540-434-9959.
