MOUNT JACKSON, Va. (WHSV) -- If you're driving on Interstate 81 anytime soon in Shenandoah County, you might notice some changes.
One town's landmark is getting a face lift, it's an update that residents say was needed. The Mount Jackson water tower was built in the early 2000s and has been fading ever since.
Pam Hennessey drives by it every week, and says it looked terrible, "Well, I drive up the highway to get to Mount Jackson, and of course it's there and I've been looking at it wondering why it was so faded."
The upgrade is a $250,000 project for the town of Mount Jackson, and many residents said they were very excited to hear about it.
Work started on the tower last Friday. At times you may see a curtain around the tower keeping debris from the highway off of it.
The town is bringing in painter, Eric Henn, who specializes in large murals and water tanks. He will begin painting in early October and the water tower is scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
Don't worry, the apples are here to stay.
