WAYNESBORO-- On Monday night, the city council will be considering changing the city's noise ordinance.

Currently, the law states that music can't be heard from 50 feet away. The change would would make the distance 200 feet, and enforceable at any time.

Sgt. Brian Edwards, from the Waynesboro Police Dept., said the law would be enforced as a primary offense, so people could get pulled over if their music is too loud.

Edwards said this is a quality of life issue, and that the change could also help in cracking down on drunk drivers. "No statistical information to back this up, but anecdotally, officers find a lot of intoxicated drivers from loud music. I guess when a person is intoxicated, and they're driving, they feel the need to rev up the music really loud," he said.

The council is hosting a public hearing on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the city chambers.
