WAYNESBORO, Va -- Waynesboro City Council will meet Tuesday to consider raising the real-estate tax from 80 cents to 82 cents per 100 dollars of the assessed value.
The city is expected to raise over $300,000 dollars from the increase.
If approved, the money will go towards raises for city employees.
In time, a portion of that money will also go to city schools.
"As a Waynesboro citizen I want to see the schools here, because that's where my kids will go, I want to see that they are supported, and if they have to increase the taxes to do that, then they need to increase it," says Kimberly Long who lives in Waynesboro.
if approved the increase will go into affect at the beginning of July.
