Waynesboro Man Arrested After His Girlfriend Found Assaulted

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -- Waynesboro police have arrested a Waynesboro man on a couple of charges after what they say was a night of alcohol fueled violence that led to the assault of his girlfriend and significant damage to their apartment.

Officers arrested Brian Douglas Meeks, 21, on felony strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on April 7, officers responded to the Quadrangle Apartments on Fourth Street for a report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found the 25-year-old victim with an injury to her mouth and several red marks around her neck. They also found hundreds of dollars of damage to the apartment’s bathroom and furnishings.

The victim told officers that Meeks had grabbed her by the neck several times choking her so that she could not breathe. She also said that he hit her several times and pulled her hair and that he then turned ripped the bathroom sink out of the wall and smashed the mirror.

Police also found damage to a bedroom dresser and some living room furniture.

Meeks is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
