AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- The Augusta County Sheriff's Office arrested a Waynesboro man on Tuesday as part of an online solicitation of a minor investigation.
Deputy Donald Moran was conducting the investigation by posing online as a 13-year-old boy. He posted an ad online and was contacted by an unknown male.
The online encounter and the resulting communications soon turned sexual in nature and led to an agreement arranging a meeting for a sexual liaison in Verona, Va.
On Tuesday at 2 p.m., the male suspect, John Daniel Patterson Jr., arrived at the agreed to location and he was taken into custody without incident. He is 66 years old and lives in Waynesboro, Va.
Patterson was arrested, interviewed, taken before the state magistrate and charged with violation of the following Virginia codes:
Use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children and attempt to, while being 18 years of age or over, with lascivious intent, knowingly and intentionally propose an act of sexual intercourse or an act constituting and offense under to a 13 year old male.
Patterson was ordered held without bond and remanded to the Middle River Regional Jail.
