WAYNESBORO Waynesboro City Council approved funds from a state grant for the city Police Department. We took a look at the equipment that the money will be used to replace.

The grant money will be used to purchase a new sniper rifle to replace the old one. It will also purchase new optics for every officer's rifle, as well as a new rescue phone, gas masks, and swat transport. Officers tell us that this will have benefits not only to the department, but to the community.

"Number one, it's going to save the tax payers a lot of money, number two, we would never be able to get all of this equipment in a single budget year, or even several budget years, because that sort of funding is just not available locally," said Captain Kelly Walker of the Waynesboro Police Department.

Walker says these items will not only make officer's work easier, but primary, much safer while in the field.
