WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV)-- The Waynesboro and Staunton police departments gathered in the Target parking lot of the Waynesboro town center.

Valley neighbors braved a brief storm to connect with emergency services, nonprofits, and other local businesses.

One man says the event is a great opportunity to come out and show appreciation for local law enforcement.

"Let people come out here and see the police officers and fire department and hopefully it'll give kids a sense that they don't have to be scared of children. I mean, scared of police officers and the fire department and things like that," said Andy Cummings, a National Night Out participant.

Waynesboro police used the event tonight to honor the memory of reserve police captain Kevin Quick.
