The Waynesboro Police Department arrested a Waynesboro man in connection with a sexual assault that took place over a four year period dating back to the late 1970s and into the early 1980s.

John Williamson Clark II, 66, is charged with one count of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of object sexual penetration between January 1, 1978 and December 31, 1981.

The assault involved a female victim who was in elementary school at the time the molestation began.

The victim, who was an acquaintenance of the Clark family at the time, reported the past abuse to the Police Department earlier this month.

Clark surrendered himself at the Police Department on Thursday.

He is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.

He is scheduled to have an advisement hearing in Waynesboro General District Court on March 30, 2012.
