Waynesboro Police Department Names Officer of the Year

Thursday, Waynesboro Police Department leaders name Sergeant Dave Shaw their 2011 officer of the year.

Sergeant Shaw joined the ranks of those who have received the honor in two decades the award has been given out.

In the past year, Shaw worked as an investigator on a number of sensitive cases involving children. He also plays an important role in the future of the police station.

"We have a field training program, and he's had to revamp that. It's a training program for our new officers. It's been very integral in making our new recruits very successful," said Sergeant Brian Edwards of the Waynesboro Police Department.

Six additional awards were given out today in areas ranging from traffic safety to the distinguished service medal.
