Waynesboro YMCA Welcomes Money and Energy Saving Initiative

The Waynesboro Family YMCA plans to celebrate an addition this April.

A local solar panel company will install 40 panels to help save money. The YMCA expects to save about $13,000 a year. It will be one of the largest solar thermal panel projects in the state.

The YMCA's executive director said he is looking forward to saving money while continuing to help the community.

"The opportunity to save funds and put it back into our programming, and just to be a role model, not only in healthy living but green living here at the YMCA gets us fired up on multiple levels," said Executive Director Jeffrey D. Fife.

The initial setup will cost more than $100,000. A grant from Virginia's Department of Mines, Minerals and Enegery will cover the cost.
