HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- As you're working on your holiday shopping , you have the chance to help people in need.

The American Red Cross has a number of ways you can help with Giving Tuesday.

Raymond Watson, a disaster service manager, said one way to help is by going online to the Red Cross and donating.

You can give the gift of shelter or donate toward a program.

Some money is used to help people locally if they've lost their homes in a recent fire.

You can also donate your time.

It's a way to help people when they really need it.

"Community who have a heart for giving who understand what it means to have a family and how a fire could devastate or a flood could devastate or a snowstorm could devastate," said Watson.

Locally, after a fire, the Red Cross gives shelter for families for up to three days along with clothing.
