AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Joanie Michelle White was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after she didn't return to jail after her work release assignment.

White was arrested at a private residence on the west end of Staunton by member of the Staunton Police Department. She was found hiding within the residence, but was arrested without incident.

She was taken back to the Middle River Regional Jail and remanded back into jail custody.

The sheriff's office initially issued a warrant on Monday charging White with escape after she didn't return to jail after her work release assignment. She was assigned to work release employment at a business in Augusta County and failed to return to the jail at the scheduled time.
