LURAY, Va. (WHSV) -- Ellen Housden Fields faces 44 felony embezzlement charges, which are connected to an embezzlement case at Saint Marks Lutheran Church in Luray.
The case involves financial records, checking and banking accounts with a current or former officer of the church. The records go back to 2007 and they could go back further than that, according to Luray Police Chief Page Campbell.
On Monday, Fields went before a grand jury and was indicted on the 44 counts. More charges are expected in the case, according to Campbell.
The Page County Circuit Court arrested Fields after her hearing on Monday. After being charged and processed, she was released on $1,000 bond.
Her next court appearance is set for July 28.
