Woman to Stay Another Year in Mental Institution

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A Rockingham County woman who strangled her mother in April 2011 will stay at a mental hospital for at least another year.

Police say that 47-year-old Lori Ann Mitchell killed her 68-year-old mother at a home on Lincolnshire Drive.

In June 2012, a judge found her not guilty by reason of insanity.

On Thursday, Mitchell's case was reviewed by a Rockingham County judge. He determined she still posed a threat to the community.

Her defense attorney, Tracy Evans, did not seek her release. Mitchell was not present for the hearing.

A judge will review the case again in August 2015.
