WEYERS CAVE, Va. (WHSV) -- With cold temperatures come the increased chance for frozen pipes, a problem that could cost you.

Plumbing Perspectives replaced a sewer line Tuesday, but employees were also on-call for any frozen pipe issues.

Jesse Green works for Plumbing Perspectives and said when pipes freeze, sometimes there are bigger issues

One problem is that water lines may need to be moved away from exterior walls.

There are simple solutions; however, such as keeping a faucet dripping and leaving cabinet doors open.

Although Green worked on a planned project Tuesday, he said this winter has brought a number of emergency calls.

One involved water lines freezing in apartments, which caused flooding and another really cost the homeowners.

"A hose hydrant inside a garage. And it got so cold that it froze inside the garage. They thought they were fine, and it caused thousands of dollars worth of damage because it flooded the house out," said Green.

Depending on the weather Tuesday night, crews are on standby in different parts of the Valley, if there are any frozen pipe issues overnight.
