World Marks Nelson Mandela Day

WHSV Friday is Nelson Mandela International Day, a day of service, celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela on his birthday, July 18th.

Mandela was the former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Price recipient, who died at the age of 95 on December 5, 2013. This is the first year the day will be celebrated since his death.

The day was approved by the U.N. General Assembly back in 2009, to honor Mandela and inspire others to carry on his peace efforts.
