HARRISONBURG,Va. (WHSV) -- An Olympic sport will remain an Olympic sport.

Wrestling will be in the 2020 Olympics after initially being removed seven-months ago by the International Olympic Committee.

A number of sports were voted on by the IOC, as wrestling beat out baseball, softball and squash to regain its place in the Games.

The rules for wrestling are being tweaked to make it easier to follow and more exciting for the fans. Some of the new rules for the sport include increased match times and cumulative scoring.

High school coaches in the area are glad wrestling is back in the Olympics. One of them says this will keep the sport of wrestling alive.

"It's huge that wrestling is back in the Olympics because it lends credibility to the sport. it would be very easy for it to be dropped. Wrestling is endangered in a lot of places, in universities across the nation, so being a part of the Olympic movement is huge.," said Don Cash, the wrestling coach at Harrisonburg High School.
