After the previous owner of Cinnamon Bear Bakery and Deli wanted to spend more time with her family, Kate Magri bought the business at just 25 years old.
Magri, who bought the bakery with her boyfriend and cousin, grew up in Harrisonburg and said this was something she wanted to do all her life.
She moved away to go to George Mason University in Fairfax and ended up staying in the area for a couple years after graduating to open something in the area.
Magri said it was very expensive and overwhelming to open a business there, and she decided to try Harrisonburg because it was a more relaxed environment.
She said she would always visit Cinnamon Bear Bakery and Deli whenever she came home to her parents, but it never crossed her mind she would be an owner.
Now, she and her two co-owners are in charge of six employees.
Magri said one of her favorite parts of owning the business is being able to be more independent and making her own rules.
"Being young, I feel like we have a lot of energy, and we have a lot of ideas. And we have time on our hands to execute it," said Magri.
Magri has advice for other people who want to buy a business - don't let fear of failure hold you back, and go into any situation with confidence and drive.
