Fights Detailed at Start of Lacrosse Player Trial
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) A former University of Virginia lacrosse player and the ex-girlfriend he is accused of killing had fights often and traded angry emails in the months before her death.

A former University of Virginia lacrosse player and the ex-girlfriend he is accused of killing had fights often and traded angry emails in the months before her death.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys described the stormy relationship between George Huguely V and Yeardley Love during opening statements Wednesday. Huguely faces murder and other charges in the May 2010 death of Love. She was on the women's lacrosse team.
Prosecutor Dave Chapman says Huguely had a pattern of violence against Love. He says the evidence will show Huguely assaulted her.
Defense attorney Frances Lawrence says Huguely was incapable of plotting to kill Love because he was very drunk the night of her death.
Lawrence says Huguely went to Love's apartment to talk and work things out, not to kill her.

Aug. 24, 2010 – New rules go into effect at UVA to keep students safe on campus, like requiring students to report previous arrests and more campus resources for reporting domestic violence. It becomes an honor code violation if you do not report a previous arrest to the university.

Jan. 8, 2011 – Additional charges filed against George Huguely, including felony murder, larceny and burglary.
April 12, 2011 – George Huguely is in court for a preliminary hearing almost one year after Yeardley Love's death.
April 19, 2011 – George Huguely indicted on six counts by a Grand Jury in Charlottesville. One of the charges is first degree murder.
May 31, 2011 – Gov. Bob McDonnell says better communication between police and the University of Virginia may have averted Yeardley Love's death.
Oct. 25, 2011 – George Huguely's lawyers seek Love's medical records.
Nov. 7, 2011 – Judge grants private viewing of Love's medical records for George Huguely's lawyers.
