The new Veterans Memorial Stadium is starting to take shape.
The future home of James Madison's baseball and softball teams is still on schedule to be ready for next spring, according to a school spokesperson.
The fields are located adjacent to JMU's Memorial Hall, the former Harrisonburg High School. Construction began last fall, following the demolition of the original Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Light posts are now in position around both dirt diamonds. Dugouts and elevator shafts have also been built recently.
JMU baseball coach Spanky McFarland says he stops by his future home about once a week to monitor the progress.
McFarland says, when it's finished, his new home field will be the best in the CAA.
"We're going to have some other things that others won't have. We're going to have the full field turf, which will be great," says McFarland. "We'll have the dugouts, which are fantastic. Our whole team will fit inside one, which is exciting. Especially when it rains or it's cold."
The completed baseball field will have seats for 1,200 spectators, plus room for future expansion. The softball field will have a 500-seat capacity.
