James Madison relief pitcher Kevin Munson continues to turn heads this summer in the Cape Cod League.
Munson's been named to the pitching staff for the West Division team for next week's all-star game at Fenway Park.
Pitching for Bourne, Munson has yet to allow an earned run in 9.1 innings this summer. He's 0-0 with one save and 17 strikeouts through Wednesday.
"It's definitely the best competition I've played against, and the best team talent-wise I've ever played on," Munson said Friday by phone. "So it's a huge honor. I'm pretty excited about it."
Pitcher Turner Phelps, Munson's teammate with both JMU and Bourne, has been named an alternate for the West squad. Phelps is 3-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 27 strikeouts in five starts on the Cape.
"Obviously it's an honor to be named an alternate, so it was mixed emotions," says Phelps. "I was happy about that, but I thought I pitched well enough to make the real team and get to play at Fenway."
Virginia's John Barr and Dan Grovatt, and Austin Wates of Virginia Tech have all been named East Division All-Stars.
The game will be played July 23.
