First the James Madison football team snapped its 12-quarter touchdown drought. Then the Dukes ended their four-game losing streak by beating Delaware 20-8 on Saturday.
JMU hadn't scored a touchdown since the second quarter of its loss to Richmond earlier this month, until quarterback Justin Thorpe's 12-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter.
That score put the Dukes up 7-3 in the third quarter.
Thorpe connected with Charlie Newman for a seven-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter, then running back Jamal Sullivan added a fourth quarter score, as the Dukes knocked off the 16th-ranked Blue Hens on Homecoming.
JMU's 20 second half points were more than enough for the team's defense, which limited the Delaware running game to nine yards on 29 carries, and sacked quarterback Pat Devlin eight times. The Dukes also intercepted Devlin twice.
With the win, JMU improves to 3-5 on the season. Delaware drops to 5-3.
