Turner Ashby senior Kyle Linn hopes he won't have to travel very far to play college football.

"I want to go to JMU," Linn said by phone after basketball practice Thursday afternoon. "That's where I've wanted to go since people started talking to me."

Linn says the school made a verbal scholarship offer earlier this month. He's planning to make an official visit to James Madison the last weekend in January.

Linn says he also has a scholarship offer from Division II Shepherd.

The six-foot-three-inch, 185-pound Linn has won back-to-back Massanutten District Player of the Year awards at safety. He's also been named an All-Group AA defensive back the past two seasons.

Linn says JMU has talked to him about starting his college career at safety, with the possibility of moving to linebacker.

Linn says he's unsure when he'll make his college decision. National Signing Day, the first day seniors can sign formal scholarship offers, is February 3.
