He's the father of the James Madison football team, and the namesake of the athletic program's academic center.

Now JMU is planning to once again recognize Challace McMillin.

As part of next month's homecoming festivities, the school will name it's center for sports psychology in McMillin's honor.

"It's very humbling. I'm very honored by that," says McMillin, who coached the JMU football team from its inception in 1972 until 1984.

McMillin has spent the last two decades working in the field of sports psychology.

He currently serves as a mental strength coach for JMU student athletes, including members of the football team. He has also held a clinic for other coaches in the surrounding community and is planning another for next spring.

McMillin says, "I think it's a very important thing, because the mental aspect of sport is probably the most important aspect, but it's not always addressed as it should be.

"And the fact that our athletes here have the opportunity to get this training, and the opportunity to work on those mental skills, I think is really, really important. It's really an important thing for the university to provide, and we're one of the few in the country that do that."
