As the carol says, "There's no place like home for the holidays." And that will be the story this winter for the James Madison women's basketball team.
Coach Kenny Brooks confirmed Thursday that this team's 2009-10 schedule includes a two-day holiday tournament at home.
Brooks, reached by telephone on his way back to Harrisonburg from Georgia, said the upcoming schedule also features games against three ACC opponents: Virginia and Duke on the road and Virginia Tech at home.
JMU lost at 72-70 in overtime at Virginia Tech last December. The Dukes haven't faced Virginia since a 98-52 loss in Charlottesville during the Cavaliers' holiday tournament in December 2004.
JMU will also host Georgetown of the Big East, as the two schools complete a home-and-home series. Last season the Hoyas beat JMU 62-59 in Washington D.C.
Brooks said the Dukes will host UNC-Asheville, Western Michigan, and Lafayette for a two-day tournament on December 29-30. UNC-Asheville is coached by JMU alum and Harrisonburg native Betsy Blose.
In recent years JMU has been on the road for holiday tournaments. They won both games at St. Francis last season, and split two games at Wagner and at Miami the two previous years.
