Turner Ashby's Kirby Burkholder is now officially bound for James Madison.

On Thursday afternoon, the senior forward signed her letter of intent to play college basketball for coach Kenny Brooks and the Dukes.

"It's a huge weight lifted off my shoulders," Burkholder said after a brief signing ceremony at her school.

"I'm really excited," she said. "I'm also really relieved that the process, and I just get to look forward to going to JMU now."

As a junior, the six-foot Burkholder averaged 15.9 points and 8.5 rebounds, and helped the Knights reach the AA Division 4 state championship. She was named all-district and all-region, and second-team all-state.

Burkholder said she got a scholarship offer from JMU last week, and picked the Dukes over Hartford and Radford.

"They have a great team, and great coaching staff," she said. "And besides basketball, it's a great school, and I think a great atmosphere to be around for four years."
