Last year the Beverley Hotel in Staunton was abruptly condemned and shut down. Monday the building hit the auction block.

The building was purchased in under a minute after just three bids were made. The winner, 104 South New Street, L.L.C., won with a bid of $50,000.

Staunton officials hope to see new apartments being built in the building.

“The Downtown is very attractive for people to live in,” said Staunton Deputy City Manager James Halasz. “It's a well situated building with public parking within two or three blocks in several locations. So it has a lot of potential, we believe.”

John Adamson, the entity holder, has not said what he plans on doing with the property.
