Waynesboro's City Council passed its city budget Monday night.
While only four changes were made to the original budget proposal, one of the changes will greatly impact city schools.
Waynesboro schools will receive an extra $234,000 for the next fiscal year. However, the school board had asked for an additional $820,000.
While that amount is better than nothing, there will still be cuts.
“It is something. It allows us to save nine positions. We'll still probably have to cut about 27 positions total out of this budget. Those are very critical positions,” said Vice Chairman Brian Edwards.
As of now, at least 13 instructional aids will most likely lost their jobs out of the 27 cuts.
The school board will meet Tuesday night to decide where to put the extra money and where to make the rest of the cuts.
