JMU Ranks Top 10 in Healthy Colleges Lists

A new report is out with the top 25 healthiest colleges in the country and one Valley school made the top 10 on the list.

James Madison University came in right behind the United States Military Academy.

JMU ranked at number 10.

Greatist.com focused on JMU's fitness.

According to the report, JMU got the highest marks for multiple fitness classes that meet the needs of thousands of students.

Staff from the university's Recreation Department said it's their goal to teach students the benefits of making exercise a daily routine.

To do so they try to reach every freshman from the minute they arrive at JMU.

“Schools of our size around the country don't seem to see the participation rates that we see with our students here at Madison,” said Director of University Recreation Eric Nickel.

JMU's Recreation Department offers activities from Zumba to kickboxing. They even offer rock climbing classes.

For that ranking, you can check out the list here.
